There are people in our community who need help. A safe place to have some food, met with kindness and compassion to find assistance to the services they need. Last year I asked the Premier @jacintaallanmp for funding for social work support in central Footscray. She readily agreed. @cityofmaribyrnong came on board and rented a shopfront. The @wbcfoundation said ‘how can we help?’ The Future Footscray steering group I established, now managed by Council has helped guide the project. Minister for Mental Health and Multicultural Affairs, @ingridstitt.mp has been a constant source of assistance. Brendan Nottle and Matthew from the @salvosau are known to many Melburnians for their expert work and compassion. They will be bringing that support to people in need in Footscray. They will be running a free space to have a meal or a cuppa with outreach too, connecting people to the healthcare, culturally appropriate and social services needed. Sometimes people just need a chat, and I can assure you - they are delightful people to speak to. Wonderful Footscray human and doggies legend, @tom_liberatore will be our patron for the service. He wants to chip in and help. Tom, we are very grateful! Many of you want to help too. We will need volunteers, and in the coming weeks I’ll let you know how you can help. Footscray is a place that has always lifted people up. The team will be opening up in around six weeks, corner of Paisley and Albert. ❤️

Stating the obvious here but it's going to be a scorcher. Be sure to check in with your neighbours, stay hydrated and stay inside where possible. If you can, leave some water out for wildlife. If you're in Footscray and need a place to rest and a glass of water, my office is open from 9am to 5pm at 204 Nicholson Street, Footscray. It's always a good idea to download the Vic Emergency app to stay updated with changing conditions. Today is a total fire ban day across the entire state. Keep cool and safe everyone.

Congratulations to Cuc Lam OAM! Cuc has dedicated her life to helping the residents of Maribyrnong. She arrived as a refugee with only a suitcase and not a day goes by when she doesn’t turn up for others. Cuc has beautiful values - she’s kind, compassionate and dedicated. Often when Cuc calls - it’s to discuss how we might be able to help someone who is doing it tough. I’ve always loved watching the way Cuc connects with people. We are proud of you, @cuc_lam_braybrook @crcuclam
It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes 618 trolleys of medical consumables, 3000+ rooms to set up, 1,200+ boxes of equipment moved, more than 4,000 hours to stock rooms, 13,000+ different medical supplies, and 4,000 pieces of equipment, to move a hospital. Our new hospital is opening on February 18. New Footscray Hospital - proudly delivered by the Allan Labor Government.

This morning Linden from my office shared this beautiful photo she took of the Aurora Australis from Williamstown Beach last night. We also talked about Rob Hirst, how brilliant he was but also how kind. What a legend of Australian music he was. I’m also thinking of my friends and colleagues who are trying to grieve and understand the tragic loss of a much loved former colleague, Tim. Thought Drums of Heaven was a suitable song to go with this photo in a world that is sometimes hard to understand. A few happy birthdays today - Linden, (who does a magnificent job supporting our community), @emmavulinmp (who does a magnificent job supporting her community) and my mum, (who does a magnificent job supporting me.) ❤️
