MORE SUPPORT FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN the inner west
People experiencing family violence in the inner west will now be able to access support where and when they need it, with a new The Orange Door Access Point funded by the Allan Labor Government.
Member for Footscray Katie Hall opened the new Access Point today, meeting with staff to hear about the family violence and child wellbeing services that will provide more support for families.
The Orange Door network is a free service for adults, children and young people who are experiencing or using family violence, as well as families needing extra support with the wellbeing of children and young people.
The Labor Government’s investment of $448 million has delivered 18 Orange Door networks across Victoria, which bring together specialist family violence, child and family and Aboriginal services to provide crisis support, risk and needs assessments, safety planning and referrals to other services.
The brand-new Orange Door Access Point brings together assessment and planning teams, supporting the operation of the Primary Site in the inner west.
The Labor Government’s investment in The Orange Door has delivered more than 60 sites where Victorians can access help, with more than half a million Victorians accessing support from the Orange Door, including more than 220,000 children.
All women and children in Victoria have the right to live safely, freely and without fear of family violence. Work is progressing on the Strengthening Women’s Safety Package announced last year including changes to the length and service of FVIOs, more therapeutic support for children, and improvements to the Central Information Point.
We are also delivering new Respectful Relationships resources, developing a Justice Navigators program to support victim-survivors and have appointed a Parliamentary Secretary for Men’s Behaviour Change – recognising that ending gender-based violence starts with men and boys.
