ABOUT THE FOOTSCRAY EO: Katie Hall MP, Labor Member for Footscray, represents and advocates for this community on State matters in the Victorian Government and Parliament.

We are passionate about Melbourne’s inner-west! We support and represent the communities of Sunshine West, Sunshine, Braybrook, West Footscray, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Tottenham and Footscray.

ABOUT THE ROLE:  We are seeking applicants for a part-time (0.5), Grade 2 role (approximately $38,556 p.a.) with a constituent support and community engagement focus. We seek people with a mature outlook, who are motivated and self-starting. We are keen to have someone join our team who will maximise Katie’s open and accessible engagement with the Footscray community and with key stakeholders.

The successful applicant will assist with constituent issue management, liaise with key stakeholders, community groups and ministerial offices, provide friendly front desk support, excellent administrative skills and complete other duties as required. You will work to secure the best possible outcomes for residents, businesses and community groups with respect to state government matters.

ABOUT YOU: You may be a part-time student, graduate or someone looking to apply your existing relevant experience in a new field. You could be a parent looking for a flexible role or someone who is retired but keen for part time work.

You are motivated, show initiative and can work under pressure.  You have a strong work ethic, can prioritise tasks and have excellent literacy and grammar skills.  You are a great letter writer!

You are organised and can plan in advance but are equally happy rolling up your sleeves and helping out in day-to-day details.  You are deliberative and politically astute, capable of examining complex issues, researching and considering options, seeking input and drafting possible solutions.

You are detail and process orientated but flexible to adapt when needed. You are confident in your own abilities but willing to take and process relevant feedback on your work. You are considerate and work well with colleagues and stakeholders, able to establish rapport. You are comfortable with a range of digital technologies. You are passionate about your work, community and Melbourne’s vibrant inner west.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THIS POSITION

Essential  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially in matters of a complex or confidential nature • Good digital literacy with high competence in software packages such as the full Microsoft Office Suite • Excellent written, research and oral communication skills, and a keen eye for detail • Knowledge in levels of government and it’s working structures of Parliament and departments • Willingness and ability to learn new software programs and manage databases • Show emotional intelligence and empathy in dealing with constituents and be considerate of colleagues and the needs of the office • Self-starter who is well organised and can work independently • Prepared for small amount of night and weekend duty (usually offset by WMA and TOIL).

Desirable • Experience in an electorate office or community engagement role • Competency in the Adobe Suite (especially PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign) • Competency in the use of databases and project management software.
